Position Summary

Provide essential and advanced nurse practice activities in the clinical, research and education arenas to promote and maintain the standards of the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
This advanced practice nursing position requires
• an in-depth knowledge and current knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease related to correct diagnosis and treatment, and effective care of the patients;
• a proven ability to participate effectively in clinical research activities related to memory assessments, perform physical and neurological examinations, and access and assure study subject safety and well-being;

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing with a concentration and emphasis in Adult care
• Current licensure in the state of Kansas as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
• Certification through an approved credentialing center (i.e. American Nursing Credentialing Center or American Nurses Credentialing Center) for Nurse Practitioners
• Ability to obtain and maintain medical staff privileges at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Medical Staff Office
• 1-2 years of current specialization providing care as a Nurse Practitioner
• Maintain current certification of BLS
• Highly developed conceptual and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an academic and industry sponsored research environment
• Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals and groups from culturally diverse backgrounds and with the people in the various departments involved with clinical care and research related activities
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to identify educational needs of the professional and non-professional staff, patients and families in the Department of Neurology, University of Kansas Medical Center and the community and develops and delivers effective and pertinent educational programs and printed materials related to Alzheimer’s disease

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Participate in industry and investigator initiated research based upon a thorough understanding of the protocol’s objectives and requirements and an objective, accurate collection of data.

Description of Job Duty

Perform protocol specific measures related to subject data and safety i.e. obtaining complete and accurate medical history, physical/ neurological examinations, electrocardiogram interpretations, medical supervision during physical exercise intervention, thorough, standardized memory assessments and cognitive evaluations.

Maintain complete and accurate records for research studies.

Complete and remain current on all required documentation and training from the Human Subjects Committee, HIPAA, and industry sponsors.

Ensure all research activities are in compliance with Human Subjects Committee protocols.

Work collaboratively with other investigators to design and promote their research studies related to memory and aging.

Uphold the scientific merit of research studies conducted and coordinated through the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
