Endowed Oncology Professor – Faculty

Required Qualifications
  • Qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree and demonstrated excellence in graduate education and mentoring.
  • The ideal candidate will have a research emphasis and values that align with the University of Kansas School of Nursing (KUSON), the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC), and The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) mission and vision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Established grant funding and data-based publications in oncology nursing research.
  • Oncology Professional Certification.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty


  • Provide visionary leadership within and across academic and clinical practice units.
  • Solicit and receive external funding for program of research in oncology.
  • Serve as a member of the KUSON Shared Leadership group to provide faculty mentoring and development in oncologic research.
  • Collaborate with researchers focused on oncology in other KUMC schools, departments, centers, and institutes to identify and develop opportunities for inter-disciplinary research.
  • Attract high quality graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
Description of Job Duty


  • Serve as primary mentor for doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows working in oncology.
  • Support faculty who are mentoring students with a focus on oncologic research.
  • Facilitate collaboration among students with oncologic research interest at least two times per year, including during on-campus summer intensives and/or research conferences.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with KUSON, TUKHS, and KUCC faculty to identify educational collaboration opportunities.
  • Explore options for building oncology nursing content across KUSON curricula.
  • Teach courses in the graduate program and/or guide student projects as negotiated with Associate Dean, Academic Affairs.
  • Assume responsibilities as assigned by Associate Deans for Academic Affairs and Research.

  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with TUKHS Clinical Oncology units and ambulatory care clinics for practice improvement research and staff development.
  • Serve as mentor for TUKHS oncology nursing staff in developing research skills and projects.

  • Serve on KUSON, KUMC, KUCC, and TUKHS committees related to research, clinical practice, and curricular innovations in oncology.
  • Assist in marketing and image-building of the KUSON to internal and external constituencies related to oncology research and education.
  • Engage in outreach to community

  • Incorporate areas of responsibility and goals in annual report to be reviewed by the Associate Deans of Academic Affairs and Research.
