Position Summary

The Department of Respiratory Care in the School of Health Professions at The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a candidate for a part-time Clinical Instructor position for a well-established Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care accredited program. The Department offers a traditional baccalaureate degree program and a RRT to BSRC degree completion program, and is in the process of establishing a new Master of Science in Respiratory Care degree program.

The School of Health Professions and the Department offer innovative faculty development opportunities that assist faculty members in their own growth and development. The School of Health Professions is an integral part of an exciting medical campus including the School of Medicine and School of Nursing.

Salary is dependent on the education and experience of the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications

Professional qualifications consistent with the Clinical Instructor appointment.

Graduation from an accredited respiratory care educational program.

Holds a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Current credentialing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and state licensure in the state practicing.

Two years clinical experience as an advanced level respiratory therapist in the specialty of neonatal and pediatrics.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with others; and demonstrate professional and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Clinical Instructor in neonatal and pediatrics.

Holds a master’s degree from an accredited institution with academic background in respiratory care and/or education.

The Clinical Instructor will provide neonatal and pediatric respiratory therapy skills to students during their clinical education.

Performs learning needs assessment, in collaboration with Director of Clinical Education (DCE), for ensuring that learners are actively involved.

Implements and evaluates general and site-specific orientation programs for students based on needs of the Clinical Instructor’s institution and with communication to DCE.

Provides an appropriate climate for learning incorporating principles of adult learning, generational learning, and cultural preferences.

Delivers competency-based respiratory therapy to enhance knowledge and skills by engaging learners in critical thinking and problem solving.

Serves as a role model for providing high standards of respiratory therapy care.

Facilitates continuous process improvements in all aspects of clinical education and when participating in the educational program.

Maintains and demonstrates clinical expertise in specialty practice and /or education specialty, obtaining or maintaining national certification.

Provide hands-on education at the patients’ bedside and/or in the clinical unit.
