Position Summary

Fulltime (12 month) faculty position and program director for a well-established Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care accredited program. The Department offers a traditional baccalaureate degree program and a RRT to BSRC degree completion program, and is in the process of establishing a new Master of Science in Respiratory Care degree program.
Academic rank, salary, and tenure or non-tenure track status are dependent on the education and experience of the successful candidate.

The School of Health Professions and the Department offer innovative faculty development opportunities that assist faculty members in their own growth and development. The School of Health Professions is an integral part of an exciting medical campus including the School of Medicine and School of Nursing. In addition, our academic medical center includes the 700 plus bed University of Kansas Hospital as part of The University of Kansas Health System.

Required Qualifications

Professional qualifications and experience consistent with an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above.

Graduation from an accredited respiratory care educational program.

Current credentialing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and eligibility for state licensure in Kansas.

Clinical experience as an advanced level respiratory therapist.

Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree and will have amassed a strong history of effective leadership.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with others; and demonstrate professional and administrative leadership skills.

Outstanding face-to-face and on-line teaching skills to include traditional instruction and knowledge of educational principles and methods for use in the classroom, on-line, and in clinical settings.

Prior experience (at least five years) of program planning, personnel management, and managing a budget.

Prior experience (at least 3 years) working with accreditation standards for a respiratory care program.

Evidence of active participation in state and/or national professional societies.

Holds a reputable position with the professional organization in respiratory care, allowing continued participation of the department at the state and national levels.

Evidence of scholarship and/or research success (e.g. papers, abstracts and/or publications).

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have leadership and development experience, a funded research agenda, and a national reputation in the department’s health profession organization/association.

Prior experience in effective mentorship of novice researchers.

Must be able to evaluate and assess outcomes important to a successful research agenda in the department.

Fosters current and future international experiences for the department including participation by faculty and students.
