Position Summary

Serve as director of an established diabetes specialty clinic serving ca. 3,000 patients and supported in part by philanthropy from the Cray family through the Cray Medical Research Foundation. The Cray Center is part of an integrated health system and represents the clinical arm of the KU Diabetes Institute, with external research funding of ca. $20 million.

Required Qualifications

M.D. with board certification in Internal Medicine and a commitment to excellence in diabetes care.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an Endocrine Fellowship–Board Certification in Endocrinology
M.D. or M.D. /Ph.D. with strong interest and/or track record in clinical research in diabetes.
Experience as a resident, fellow, or faculty member in a specialty diabetes clinic or significant prior experience in providing diabetes care in an outpatient or integrated inpatient-outpatient setting.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Provide leadership for a staff of four mid-level providers and five CDEs, as well as mentorship in diabetes care to medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the Center, and to faculty whose specialties lie outside diabetes. This includes direct supervision, case-oriented teaching, and formal lectures.

Description of Job Duty

Support innovative models of patient-centered diabetes care and work to enhance and develop new avenues for continuity of care from inpatient to outpatient that foster better patient outcomes and a reduction in early readmissions.

Actively support professional development opportunities for Cray midlevel staff and educators and quality improvement initiatives for the clinic.

Description of Job Duty

Provide a venue for, or ideally actively conduct, independent or industry supported clinical research designed to improve diabetes outcomes. Collaborate with KUMC basic scientists to foster translational research and clinical opportunities for PhD students.

Participate in faculty activities of the Section of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Genetics as required. This may include participation in the inpatient consult service, fellows’ clinic, grand rounds, and core conferences and case study series.

Advocate for resources to enhance diabetes care within the health system, provide stewardship for the Cray annual gift, and work with Endowment to nurture and support the relationship ongoing with the Cray family for over 30 years and now including the fourth generation.

Foster outreach to the wider community, including the entire state of Kansas.
