Position Summary

Provide medical care for clinic and hospitalized patients at KU Medical Center as well as contributing to various research, educational and clinical initiatives related to areas of individual interest and expertise. As junior faculty, serve in a clinician educator role with responsibility for education of fellows, residents and medical students and other learners.

Required Qualifications

Board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Training. Infectious Diseases boards within one year of appointment. Kansas medical license.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in infectious diseases clinical patient care and research.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Perform attending consultation rounds in rotation with other faculty members, see new and follow up consultations each month. Maintain an ID clinic each week for 8 hours. Write letters to referring physicians. These patient care duties may involve the attending physician only, or they may involve training medical students, residents, fellows or other learners. Generally, support the other clinical and service activities of the School.

Teach by giving at least one lecture each week, as assigned by the Director, to faculty, fellows, residents or students. Update each group on the infections involving their area of expertise, emphasizing anatomic pathology and exam findings with appropriate therapy including new treatments. Support the other teaching activities of the University as needed and assigned by the Director.

Description of Job Duty

Provide regular attendance and presentations at each of the Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases meetings to include but not limited to Morning Report Rounds, case conferences, Journal Clubs, M&M conferences, CPC conferences, Core Curriculum meetings, pharmacy meetings, infection control meetings and patient safety conferences.

Provide direction by attending the Hospital Infection Control meetings for KU Hospital.

Description of Job Duty

Guide and assist the housestaff and students in preparing talks for meetings, writing publications individually or with other faculty members, and in conducting and presenting the results from research projects. Be an example of an academic physician by conducting clinical research in the Division. Support the other scholarly activities of the School.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of Medicine, or the Director of Infectious Diseases Division.
